Angola: Calulu de Peixe with Funje

Hi there, it is great to know we have some blog followers!
And plenty of hungry folks to feed...

Angola is a Portuguese-speaking country in the West Coast of Africa, that is why we know that "de Peixe" means "of fish".  We used Ono from Costco which was pretty good.

Calulu de Peixe:  It was really flavorful, with all the veggies, eggplant, okra, tomatoes mixed in. Very tasty. The hard thing was to acquire the Palm Oil. Here is a hint: if you need it, do not go to Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage, instead go to the Indian Grocery on 28th St in Boulder. Bring your $20 (gasp) to acquire it. Whole Foods says they do not sell it because it is not sustainably harvested, we need to research that...

Funje: a porridge. It is just flour and water. We used corn meal, who knows if it was the really right one... We were not so fond of this one... Holly pushed it aside with the fork... Alici said it stuck to the roof of her mouth like peanut butter... Ligia dutifully ate it... And Jim said it takes an African person to make it right.

Funje is the porridge at 1 PM. Fish is at 8 PM. Veggies and broth all around, yummy!

  1. I ate a little! But no, the funje was not my fave. The fish was yummers. Great photo. Thanks again for dinner and I'll gladly be one of your guinea pigs any time :-)
